Let us consider that is the website of a celebrity or a professional Mr.Hello. Let’s imagine someone is not happy with Mr.Hello. He creates a website and hosts some inappropriate words about Mr.Hello. What will be the effect on Mr.Hello?

Fine! What is this known as? This creating of a similar website name with a profit motive is known as cybersquatting. 

Today, our topic of discussion is CyberSquatting.   

It will create a negative image of Mr.Hello among the public and the professionals. Furthermore, please note that is the original website whereas does not belong to Mr.Hello. Here, I wish to add one point that each website is unique So what would he do now? He would contact the person who owns the website He will request him to remove the contents from the website. However, the person would say It’s my website, I would do whatever I want. Then our Mr.Hello should quote a price and buy the website from him. He has no other option other than transferring the ownership to him.  

Cybersquatting is registering, selling, or using a domain name with the intent of profiting from the goodwill of someone else’s trademark. Cyber Squatting is usually done on websites or companies which are flourishing with good potential. 

Similarly, Cyber Squatting was done with famous domains such as Google and Facebook also. 

There are so many ways of doing cybersquatting 

One way to squat is omitting the dot-like instead of www.

The next way is to create misspelled website domains such as instead of the original site

Finally, Renewal snatching also is possible. Suppose if expires, then in the meantime, someone else registers the domain and takes control, that is known as renewal snatching.

– You can initiate a court case

– You can complain in NiXi – who is NiXi (National Internet Exchange of India)– they are facilitators of internet services in India

– Additionally, you can initiate arbitration in ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) which is a non-profit international organization in charge of the internet. They have a Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP) to resolve situations like this.

But, are we happy in dealing with a situation like this? What should we do to avoid this type of scenario in our business?
